TransCanada employees turn time and money into making dreams a reality
As TransCanada’s annual Get Empowered giving and volunteering campaign wrapped up its third year in October, employees and contractors across North America once again proved their dedication to their communities.
Through their generosity, more than $711,300 was donated to 678 registered charities during the month-long campaign. Money wasn’t the only thing they gave – employees and contractors logged 4,155 volunteer hours during the month.
As part of the campaign’s activities, more than 100 volunteers swung hammers to build homes with Habitat for Humanity in locations across Canada and the United States, including Calgary, Alta., Napanee, Ont., and Houston, Texas, Lafayette, La. and Charleston, W.Va.
“I’m proud to be a part of this cause here,” says Ejeni Gideon, a TransCanada employee who volunteered at a Habitat build in Houston. “I’m excited to be one of the people who hit a nail in the wall . . . [and] did something for some family who will never meet me. But they have a roof over their head and it’s a company that I work for that provided this opportunity.”
Employees also supported conservation efforts of our long-time non-profit environmental partner, Nature Conservancy of Canada, through a variety of volunteering and awareness events at our Calgary office.
Employees cut strips of bamboo to house solitary bees native to Alberta and built range cages that are used as a tool to monitor the health of grassland plant communities on conservation lands, along with participating in other volunteering and awareness activities that empower the communities where they live and work.
