For more than 50 years, TransCanada employees have made a significant contribution to communities through our annual United Way campaign. So our company was honoured to receive the Thanks a Million Award recently presented to us by United Way of Calgary and Area Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Heather MacDonald.
The award recognizes corporations whose employees have raised $1 million or more in the previous year’s campaign. In 2011, we raised more than $2.5 million for 114 United Ways across North America.
Watch the video above to see TransCanada CEO and President Russ Girling and Executive Vice President of Corporate Services Wendy Hanrahan accept the award at our head office in Calgary.
TransCanada is back at it again and ready to do more — this time, with Girling as co-chair of the city-wide United Way campaign. This year, we united the giving power of TransCanada employees, living and working in communities across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, to make an unprecedented difference in our local communities. We officially launched our United Way campaign in September with a WebEx event that was attended virtually by hundreds of employees across the continent.

Throughout the campaign, TransCanada employees illustrated our passion and commitment to the communities where we live and work. Whether it was volunteering at a shelter for children with disabilities in Mexico, attending a Texan-style hot dog lunch launch in Houston or helping build a house for Habitat for Humanity in Calgary, employees across the continent had fun while making a positive difference.
Stay tuned for the final results of our campaign after the last pledges roll in during November 2012.
